Houston Area Women's Center Records 1975-1990

The Houston Area Women's Center (HAWC) emerged from the Women's Information and Referral Exchange Service (WIRES) in 1977. HAWC provides resources to battered women in metropolitan Houston. In 1996, HAWC programs fell into three primary areas, Family Violence, Rape Crisis, and Community Education. This collection contains organizational and financial records, minutes, correspondence, photographs, and procedural manuals. Items date from 1975 to 1990 with most of the material dating from the early 1980s.
